All Eyes On Girl Groups
Before The Beatles dominated people’s hearts, girl groups actually took center stage first in the early ’60s. The most prominent groups back then were The Ronettes, The Paris Sisters, and The Lovelites. They took on the spotlight as they crossed the Rock and Roll and British Invasion period.
This iconic girl group era marked a trend of quirky pop, a hybrid of gospel and rhythm that sang about everything from love to heartbreak. When the mid-’60s kicked in, girl groups slowly faded from the limelight. The Supremes were one of the few ones who continued to prosper despite having rising competitors.
