The Mod Squad As a Kind of First Television Series
The Mod Squad is a crime drama series that debuted in 1968. It was the first television series that featured young undercover cops and included a lot of more serious and liberated topics, such as war, protests, and intimate relationships.
From 1968 to 1973, it received commercial success and warm acceptance by the viewers. More importantly, its excellence in representing the counterculture has earned several awards. On top of the list are six Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nominations, and the Directors of America Award. An episode in 1970, “Mother of Sorrow,” was placed at number 95 on TV Guide’s 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time.
