The First Person To Land On The Moon

Once in 1961, former President John Kennedy wanted to land humans on the moon. He challenged NASA to send a man to the moon and return to Earth safely before the decade. NASA knew they could pull it off and started the mission in which they called Apollo 11.

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong made history as the first human to step on the moon. Astronauts Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins joined him after a few minutes. They spent about three hours together in the lunar module, took photographs, collected lunar materials, and left a U.S. flag. The three returned to Earth safely on July 24, 1969.
